our budding artist

So while we are on the topic of Rilla's pictures.

She is becoming quite the little artist. Most of the time she draws her really grand drawings on her magna doodle, asks us to look, and then quickly erases it and moves on while I am still thinking about how impressed I am at what she just drew, and wishing it was on paper. (Why hasn't somebody invented a print button for those things yet?)

The other day Ezekiel, Rilla, and I stayed home from church (Rilla was sick) and so while Zekie slept, Rilla and I spent some time drawing. It was actually incredibly relaxing, and made me realize how often I set up drawing time for them without actually taking the time to enter into it. So, it being Sunday morning and all, I ignored the messy kitchen and sat down to draw, too. I drew a little picture that felt a little bit to me like a certain windy ridge that we visited in Iowa... not exactly like it at all, but it just felt like it to me... and I probably spent 45 minutes coloring it. Rilla decided to draw one like mine. I am pretty sure she spent less that 10 minutes on it.

But look.

You'll have to click on it to really tell. But she got it. Rainbow, hills, willow tree, house, other trees, mountains, flowers in grass on the hills in the foreground, two birds on the upper left corner above the rainbow. And she kinda pursed her lips and pointed out how she didn't get it exactly.

But still. I was pretty impressed! I don't think she's tried to copy another person's artwork before... she usually comes up with her own, and I like it that way... but I was surprised that she was able to notice those details and replicate them.
