Rilla had her first-ever gymnastics class today. It was her first class of any kind, actually, other than Sunday School. She loved it! Keith and I were grinning and standing up and holding back our applause the whole time. It was very, very exciting.
"LOOK!!!! She's holding on to the rings!!!!!"
"Look, look, look! Did you see that jump??"
Yep, we are that kind of parents.
I wanted to do gymnastics and ballet from the time I was three or four until I got to college. I finally took ballet in college and loved it, so much so that I took Intermediate Ballet twice just for the sheer delight of it. So we've been weighing out ballet and gymnastics options for a while and trying to decide if it was really worth it, and it finally just came down to, okay, she's old enough, she wants to do it, let's let her do it!!
Rilla was ecstatic when we told her that she was old enough to take a gymnastics class, as we've been hanging out at the gymnastics place now and then for preschool open gym time. She has been talking about it for a week straight while we've been leading up to today's class, explaining in lovely four-year-old style about how great it was going to be.
But I still might have been more excited about it than she was!
For the record, I'm not the push-for-the-Olympic-medal kind of mama, but I do really want my children to have more opportunities to exert themselves physically and learn to excel in athletics than I did. Since I tend to be more of a bookworm (hey, we all have our strengths), I am super excited for Rilla to have this opportunity! It's kind of a new chapter in our parenting journey, too.
Oh how fun!
