short reflections on 2011

The thought of making New Year's goals seems vastly overwhelming to me just now. So it's not going to happen for a while. I saw on one friend's Facebook post the idea of making lists of seven things to stop doing, seven things to continue doing, and seven things to start doing, each in the category of physical, spiritual, and social. I like that idea a lot. But then, I also like the idea of Keith and I taking a weekend retreat at the beginning of each new year to plan out the year ahead... everything from financial goals to which friendships to invest in... and once again, I don't think that's going to happen this year. Or maybe it will. One can dream.

Anyway, I found a list here of reflections on 2011 that seemed a little less intimidating. I might be able to handle something of this size. So I am just jotting some things down, not thinking that these are the biggest or most important things that happened this year, but they are things that happened which I happen to be able to remember.

1. What is one truth you learned?
I really don't have any extra time. Time chosen for one thing
is time chosen away from something else.

2. What is something you did that you are particularly proud of?
cuddled my children and read to them and prayed with them
and sang to them and read good books to them every day

3. What was the hardest thing you had to do?
take care of the children all day, all night, all week by myself
(when Keith was truck driving and working looong hours)

4. What is something you changed to improve the way you lived?
making myself walk more, beginning to eat more raw food,
washing pots and pans daily instead of weekly

5. What was your favorite arts and culture discovery (a book or song)?
I think I am pathetically lacking on any new favorite grown-up books.
But I might work up to a blog about some new favorite kids' books sometime soon.

6. What was something new you tried?
beginning to choose a more raw food diet

7. What experience did you appreciate the most?
being able to be a full-time mama to my little ones

8. What did God surprise you with?
the joy of another beautiful small blessing to soon join our family outwardly,
joy and delight and grace in the faces and actions of our small children

9. What was something that inspired you?
the faithfulness of Mary to praise God in the middle of crazy circumstances

10. If there is one word to describe 2011, what would it be?
The Lord gave me the word "abundance" at the beginning of 2011.
And the Lord's grace was abundant as always. So I'll stick with "abundance."

  1. I like the idea of a retreat at the beginning of the year. That sounds so nice.
